The latest data from the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Commerce showed a significant year-on-year growth in the province's consumption over the three-day New Year holiday from Jan 1 to 3.

Sales revenue for Zhejiang's catering businesses and retailers rose by 3.15 percent and 4.14 percent respectively from the previous year. The province's top 10 pedestrian shopping streets saw a 6.72 percent year-on-year growth rate in sales.

Leading restaurant chains saw particularly thriving business during the holiday. In the provincial capital of Hangzhou, the 36 flagship stores of a famed restaurant brand grossed 14.2 million yuan ($2.2 million) over the three days, surging 50.6 percent from the previous year. In Ningbo's Yinzhou district, most chain restaurants saw more than 90 percent of their tables occupied throughout the holiday.
